Trekking to Cima Regina Margherita (2356 m)

Sunday morning, Sept. 8

Cima Regina Margherita (Queen Margherita peak) is a nearby scenic place from where to enjoy a great view of Monte Rosa and the surrounding Alps. Weather and other conditions permitting, a trekking to this peak is scheduled for Sunday morning, departure time 9 a.m. (check with us upon arrival on Saturday). A chair-lift will take the participants to 2015 m altitude, thus limiting to an easy final 350 m the height to hike (2 hours the way up and 1.5 down, maximum). A lunch-basket will be given to participants, which should be back to the hotel by 3:00 p.m, in time for the guided tour to Gressoney village (starting 3:30 p.m.) and the welcome cocktail beginning at 5:30 p.m. You may instead decide to stop at "Belvedere" (just 40 min walk from the arrival of the chair-lift and only 150 m higher) from where also to enjoy a fine view of Monte Rosa and Gressoney's valley (see picture below) and then return to the chair-lift to be back to the Hotel in time for lunch.

Please inform us now (at GAIA2002@pd.astro.it) if you intend to participate, and if you'll go for the peak and than you'll need the lunch-basket or if you'll stop at Belvedere and than you'll return for lunch. Please also note that we recommend to bring with you trekking shoes, a summer hat, sun cream and a small knapsack (both to Belvedere or Regina Margherita peak). The hike should be easy for anyone normally fit. However be aware that the Conference organizers will assume no responsibility in any event connected with this or any other outdoor activity in which you will take part during the period of the Conference.
